August 25, 2009 Marjuana Ordinance Community Meeting
Marijuana Ordinance Community Meeting
The community continues to try to resolve the problems that medical
marijuana is legal, and safe access is provided by law versus some
residents who are opposed to medical cannabis access; and want to protect
"at-risk" communities from being dumping grounds in the future.
The guiding principles proposed by the Neighborhood Advisory Group are:
(1) Serve legitimate patients in need;
(2) Protect vulnerable populations (youth, parolees, people in recovery);
(3) Enable our business districts to thrive.
The Neighborhood Advisory Group has been challenged by the Board of
Supervisors to develop guidelines for a medical cannabis model which would
provide safe access within our neighborhoods. As a result, many community
leaders have been meeting to discuss various options that are available.
On August 25th, the community is invited to discuss the following options:
Option 1: Regulated Delivery-only ordinance (no storefronts) with the
following provisions to be considered:
a) Delivery services must be able to identify a legal and environmentally
friendly source; third-party-Iaboratory tested for quality and safety.
b) There must be reporting requirements and a doctor's recommendation.
c) Number of delivery services allowed will be limited, and adhere to all
other guidelines regarding delivery services above.
Option 2: Regulated Delivery and Regulated Storefront operation, with
limited on site distribution
a) Storefront operation with limited hours of operation
b) Will provide alternative health services information on site and
available to medical cannabis patients
c)Paraphernalia for the use of medical cannabis and/or other drugs is
prohibited on site.
Option 3: Regulated Storefront Operation Only
