Concert Benefiting Berkeley's Medical Marijuana Hospice Program
| By Berkeley Patients Group (BPG) | Published February 24, 2009 |
During these tough times, many seriously ill people are finding it difficult to afford their medicine. Thankfully, Berkeley is home to one of the nation's only programs that provides free cannabis to patients who are most in need.
We hope you'll join us for a night of great live music benefiting this compassionate program!
A donation of $12 gets you into this night of music and all profits go directly to the Berkeley Patient Group's James R. Russell Memorial Hospice Program. The Starry Plough, located at 3101 Shattuck Ave in Berkeley, features great food, a wide selection of delicious ales and a daily happy hour from 4-7 if you want to kick things off early! (The venue is 21+, so please bring a valid ID.)
Our show's headliner, Elevation 42, is a new band featuring 2 BPG employees blending elements of Afro-Cuban, funk, and rock to create sounds your body can't help but dance to. Supporting Elevation 42, will be Rachel Levant, a Bay Area singer/songwriter that is making her presence known with show stopping performances. Rachel is also a BPG employee and coordinates SSDP's AMPLIFY Project, which connects SSDP chapters with artists across the country to help spread the word about drug policy reform.
Opening up the show will be yours truly. I'll be playing a few of my original instrumentals on acoustic guitar. This will be my first time playing on the West Coast and I'm excited to be sharing the stage with these great artists and supporting such an important cause! You can find more information on the show and samples of the artists music on SSDP's website: http://www.ssdp.org/amplify/events
